If you are flying without a visa issued by a Ghanaian embassy, you now need an OK to Board (Pre-Approval Letter) before your airline will allow you to travel. This letter is an important immigration requirement that confirms your travel approval in advance.
What Is an OK to Board (Pre-Approval Letter)?
The OK to Board, also called a Pre-Approval Letter, is an official document issued by the Ghana Immigration Service. It allows your airline to confirm that you are cleared to travel to Ghana. Without this letter, you may be denied boarding or delayed upon arrival.
Why You Need It
This letter is mandatory for travelers who plan to get a visa upon arrival or do not have a visa from a Ghanaian embassy. It ensures that your entry has been pre-cleared by immigration, avoiding last-minute travel issues.
How the Process Works
Your application must be submitted by a host or recognized organization in Ghana. The Diaspora Affairs GH team can assist you directly with the full process.
To apply, you need to provide:
- A copy of your passport’s bio page (valid for at least 6 months)
- A copy of your flight ticket or itinerary showing your booking reference
- The address where you will stay in Ghana or a letter of invitation from your host
Once we receive your details, we process your application with the Ghana Immigration Service and send you the official approval letter once ready.
Visa Fees and Payment Details
The payment is GHS 3,150 per person.
This fee covers the official pre-approval processing by the Ghana Immigration Service and is payable through the designated Mobile Money number: +233 544 240 294 (Joseph Bekoe).
Once your payment is confirmed, the Diaspora Affairs GH team immediately begins your immigration pre-approval application and follows up until completion.
OK to Board Service Fee
In addition to the visa pre-approval processing, a separate service fee of GHS 1,450 per person applies for the OK to Board (Pre-Approval Letter) support handled by Diaspora Affairs GH.
This covers document verification, submission, coordination with immigration, and digital delivery of your approved letter.

Final Payment at the Airport
When you arrive at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, you will make a final payment of $200 USD at the immigration counter to receive your official visa.
This payment is separate from the processing and service fees and is handled directly by immigration officials.

Please note that processing support is also available 24 hours a day for urgent travel needs.
