Ghana Month is a time Ghanaians celebrate our heritage and culture and the appropriate time for African Americans to join celebrate our heritage and culture and to learn . One of the best ways to do this is to visit Ghana, the land of your ancestors. The Ghana Diaspora Advocacy And Resource (GDAAR) Foundation is making it easier than ever for African Americans to visit Ghana with their annual Ancestral Heritage Tours.
The tours are open to all African Americans, regardless of age or income. The cost of the tour is $2,600, which covers round-trip airfare, accommodation, food, and transportation. The tours will last for 10 days and will be in three batches for the month of March:
- First tour: March 1st-10th
- Second tour: March 10th-20th
- Third tour: March 20th-30th
During the tours, participants will have the opportunity to visit many important historical and cultural sites in Ghana, including:
- Elmina Castle
- Cape Coast Castle
- Kakum National Park
- Lake Volta
- Ashanti Cultural Center
- Wli Waterfalls
- Mole National Park
These sites are all significant to African American history and culture. Elmina and Cape Coast Castles were two of the largest slave forts in West Africa, and they played a major role in the transatlantic slave trade. Kakum National Park is home to a rainforest canopy walk, which gives visitors a unique perspective on the Ghanaian rainforest. Lake Volta is the largest artificial lake in Africa, and it is home to many different species of fish and wildlife. The Ashanti Cultural Center is a museum dedicated to the Ashanti people, one of the largest ethnic groups in Ghana. Wli Waterfalls is the tallest waterfall in Ghana, and it is a popular tourist destination. Mole National Park is a wildlife sanctuary that is home to many different species of animals, including elephants, lions, and buffalo.
