Ghana’s Education Strides Show Promise, but Quality Gap Demands Action from GDAAR Foundation.

By Joseph Bekoe

Ghana has made impressive progress in expanding access to secondary education, a milestone reflected in the recent Legatum Prosperity Index. The nation’s leap from 144th to 137th in the overall ranking, coupled with a significant increase in secondary school enrollment, highlights a dedication to ensuring more young Ghanaians have the chance to learn.

However, the Index’s stark revelation that Ghana ranks a disheartening 166th out of 167 countries in education quality is a call to action that the Ghana Diaspora Advocacy and Resource Foundation (GDAAR) is committed to answering.

While access is crucial, GDAAR recognizes that quality education is the cornerstone of personal empowerment and national development. We understand that without a solid foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and relevant skills, Ghana’s youth cannot reach their full potential or contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.

The GDAAR Solution: Bridging the Quality Gap

GDAAR is dedicated to more than just getting students in classrooms; we’re committed to ensuring they thrive within them. Our work focuses on addressing the root causes of the quality gap:

  • Teacher Training and Support: We empower educators with the tools and skills to deliver engaging, high-quality instruction.
  • Resource Enhancement: We equip schools with modern teaching materials, technology, and infrastructure to create conducive learning environments.
  • Curriculum Relevance: We advocate for curricula that align with 21st-century skills and industry demands, preparing students for the workforce and higher education.
  • STEM Education: We prioritize science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs to foster innovation and address the growing demand for technical skills.
